  • Conferences@934: French language in the United Nations

    French is one of the six official United Nations languages, along with English, Spanish, Chinese, Russian and Arabic. Thus, French is used in the meetings of the UN organs and is used in official documents. French is also, along with English, one of the two working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Moreover, the Permanent Representation of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie to the United Nations organizes and monitors francophone presence at the UN. For this month’s conference, Stéphane Dujarric and Margaret Besheer will discuss French in the United Nations.

  • Conferences@934: The environment and water policies

    On March 22nd, the international community celebrated the world water day. On this occasion, UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, recalled that “One in three people already lives in a country with moderate to high water stress, and by 2030 nearly half the global population could be facing water scarcity, with demand outstripping supply by 40 per cent”.

    On March 4th 2013, on the occasion of her visit to New York for the UN Commission on the Status of Women, the Minister of Women’s Rights and Government’s spokesperson, Ms Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, presented her point of view on the role of women in our society, at the Consulate General of France in New York.
