25th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child - French Minister for Family’s visit

Ms. Laurence Rossignol, Minister of State for the Family, Elderly People and Adult Care, will be in New York from November 19 - 21, 2014 on the occasion of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Ms. Laurence Rossignol, Minister of State for the Family, Elderly People and Adult Care, will be in New York from November 19 - 21, 2014 on the occasion of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

On this occasion,she will sign on behalf of the French Government the 3rd optional protocol to the Convention (Thursday 20 November at 12:30pm). This protocol opens up the possibility for children to file a complaint with the Committee on the Rights of the Child in Geneva.

During her visit, the Minister of State will meet with representatives from UNICEF as well as with Ms. Marta Santos Pais, Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence against Children, as well as NGOs and New York City’s child protection actors.

These meetings will be an opportunity for the Minister of State to present to her partners France’s reform in the field of child protection.

The Minister of State will also attend high-level UN meetings on the protection of children’s rights on the occasion of the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Mrs Rossignol will also be meeting the Commissioner in charge of the social services of New York City, as well as the director of the charity New Yorkers for Children. She will then visit Safe Horizon’s "Child Advocacy Center" for children victims of sexual abuses.
