France has Europe’s largest Jewish community and Jews have been established in France for the past 2,000 years. In spite of a strong commitment of French authorities in the fight against anti-Semitism, some anti-Semitic groups are becoming increasingly vocal, particularly in the social media. Is France experiencing a new, more liberated form of anti-Semitic rhetoric?
What are the different forms of present anti-Semitism in France? How does the CRIF work with the government to teach the "Vivre-ensemble" (living together)? The two speakers, who are respected leaders of the Jewish communities in France and in the U.S.A., will share their views on what could be the new steps and perspectives for the French Jewish community.

Roger Cukierman is President of the CRIF (Representative Council of Jewish Institutions in France) and Vice President of the World Jewish Congress. He is also Treasurer of the Foundation for the Memory of the Shoah. Roger Cukierman was already President of the CRIF from 2001 to 2007 and made the fight against anti-Semitism his main priority. He began his career in 1963 in the Edmond de Rothschild Group where he actively participated in the group’s internationalization and finally became its President in 1993. Roger Cukierman was also administrator of the firm’s major foundations. He is very active in many social and educational institutions of the Jewish community and was decorated a Knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honor. Originally from Poland, the family of Roger Cukierman emigrated to Paris in 1932.

Malcolm Hoenlein is Executive Vice Chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, the coordinating body on international and national concerns for 51 national Jewish organizations. Previously, he served as the founding Executive Director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater New York, the central coordinating agency for Jewish organizations in the metropolitan New York area. Prior to that, he was the founding Executive Director of the Greater New York Conference on Soviet Jewry. Mr. Hoenlein has traveled throughout the world meeting with world leaders and Jewish communities and lecturing on international relations, Israel and Middle East affairs, Soviet and World Jewry, terrorism, the American Jewish community, and intergroup relations. Mr. Hoenlein serves as an advisor to many public officials and is frequently consulted on public policy issues. Mr. Hoenlein is associated with and serves on the boards of many communal, educational and civic organizations including the Council on Foreign Relations.
