Launch of Oui Design, a program of the Cultural Services of the French Embassy to promote French design in the US
The Cultural Services of the French Embassy is launching Oui Design, a program that encourages French-American cooperation in the different fields of design, between designers, creators, researchers, students, museums and manufacturers. This program also hopes to raise the profile of French design in the United States through various exhibitions and collaborations during the next two years.
Oui Design began on January 16, 2016 with artist Ionna Vautrin’s exhibition Le bestiaire, which presents fantastical animal costumes imagined by 17 French designers. This bestiary gives children the chance to slip into the “skin” of all kinds of animals, from the very tame to the very wild. The exhibition is held in the FIAF gallery (22 East 60th Street) and runs until April 2, 2016.
Then, during NYCxDesign in May, the main projects of Oui Design will be presented at the WantedDesign expo and in New York museums including the Cooper Hewitt Museum and the Museum of Arts and Design. Exhibitions, workshops, film projections and conferences—there are so many ways to showcase the creativity and inventiveness of French designers in New York!
