STATE TUITION FOR STUDENTS IN PREMIERE AND TERMINALE CLASSES (junior and senior years) Retour à la table des matières

By decision of the President of the Republic, tuition fees for French students in Terminale (seniors), together with annual registration fees and, if applicable, initial registration fees, will be paid for by the State for the 2007-2008 academic year.
This provision will be extended to students in Première in French-language schools accredited by the Ministry of National Education for the 2008-2009 academic year.

Eligibility:

Family Domicile: Children must live with at least one of their parents in the country where the school is located.

Financial Means: The family’s gross income may be taken into account.

Other State benefits in France: tuition assistance may not be combined with State benefits in France.

Taxes: Families who receive tuition assistance are required to prove they are in good standing with the applicable tax authorities.

Nationality: Children for whom scholarship assistance is sought must have French nationality. No financial assistance is available for children whose French nationality is not proved.

Registration on the Registre des Français établis hors de France: children applying for scholarships must be registered on the global Registre des Français établis hors de France.

Age: to apply for State tuition, a child must normally be not more than two years behind.

School Attended: Children must attend a school/class accredited by the Ministry of National Education.

Other child allowances/benefits taken into account: in the event applicants are also receiving direct or indirect assistance for the schooling of their children enrolled in Première and/or Terminale, regardless of the type of aid, this aid shall be taken into consideration prior to any award of State tuition. The same is true with respect to any reduction in fees or exemptions allowed by the school.

Procedure and List of Supporting Documents:

If you wish to apply for scholarships for children in different cycles, at least one of whom is in Première or Terminale, you may submit one application to the Consulate using the formulaire de demande de bourses scolaires which is available at their schools. Once you have assembled all the required documentation, you will be given an appointment at the Consulate. Requests for appointments must be made no later than February 15, 2008 either by email social@consulfrance-newyork.org, or by telephone (1 212 606 3606 or 1 212 606 3605).

If you wish to apply for scholarships for one or more of your children enrolled in Première or Terminale, you need to submit a demande de prise en charge des frais de scolarité. This form is available at their school or may be downloaded from the website of the AEFE: www.aefe.diplomatie.fr. The applications must be handed in to the schools concerned no later than March 14, 2008. They will be examined by the Local Scholarship Commission then forwarded to the AEFE.

Applications must include the following supporting documents:

Proof of residence abroad (lease, recent electricity or telephone bill in the name of the applicant)

Completed application form signed by the applicant (one form only per family) to be obtained from the school or on the AEFE website www.aefe.diplomatie.fr.
