Conférence 934 - Pandemics : What are Global Health Leaders doing to Combat the next Outbreak ?

Join us for a conference about pandemics on Thursday, October 25th, at 6:30pm at the Consulate General of France in collaboration with Pasteur Foundation.

In today’s globalized world, pathogens spread easily across local, national, and transnational borders. Infectious diseases can spread from a small village to any country in the world in about 36 hours. To combat this invisible enemy, Countries and their Public Health Ministries need to cooperate and collaborate. However, many nations have not yet taken the necessary steps to prepare for the next deadly pathogen outbreak.

Today, the challenge is to be prepared and to determine what we can learn from the recent Ebola and Zika crises. We need to find answers to the longstanding questions that have challenged the research community and global health policymakers. Are we prepared for the next outbreak ? What emergency responses should we plan first ?

To discuss these important questions, the Consulate and the Pasteur Foundation US will gather public health leaders from the scientific community, NGOs, and politics expert presenters include :

  • Kathleen Victoir, PhD, Director, International Network at the Institut Pasteur.
  • Amadou Alpha Sall, MD, Director, the Institut Pasteur Dakar.
  • Christopher Perdue, MD, MPH, Commander, US Public Health Service, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response, US Department of Health and Human Services
  • David Blazes, MD, MPH, Senior Advisor, Surveillance and Epidemiology, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
  • Janet Tobias, Emmy Award Winning Journalist and Documentarist & Producer, Unseen Enemy
  • Northan Hurtado, MD, is the deputy medical director based at Doctor Without Borders (MSF) in New York.
